Heat pumps can be a great option in Tucson
Tucson has a warm and dry climate, making heat pumps a great option that replaces both your air conditioner and your furnace.
Heat pumps can be up to 50% more efficient than traditional heating and cooling systems, which can lead to significant energy savings.
Another benefit of heat pumps is that they don’t rely on fossil fuels like natural gas or oil. They use electricity, which many people consider more environmentally friendly.
Things to consider…
All that said, heat pumps are not necessarily the best solution in all situations.
For example, if you need to replace your air conditioner but still have a perfectly good gas furnace that you like, you should probably just replace the A/C.
Here are some situations where a heat pump might be a great option:
- You need to replace both your furnace and your air conditioner or cooler.
- You’re relying on propane for heating and cooking. Switching to an all-electric HVAC system would lower your propane costs dramatically.
- You want to move away from fossil fuels and improve your carbon footprint.
- Your current HVAC system needs repairs more frequently these days and you really could use a little extra space in the house. Renew your heating and cooling and free up the furnace closet at the same time.
Ductless heat pumps
Ductless heat pumps can be a good choice for small cottages, room additions or retrofits for rooms not connected with the ductwork in the rest of the house.
Like standard air-source heat pumps, mini-splits have two main components – an outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit.
A conduit, which houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, links the outdoor and indoor units.
The main advantages of ductless heat pumps are their smaller size, flexibility and ease of installation. But the system cost can be higher, they must be properly sized for greatest efficiency and some people find the appearance of the indoor unit to be unattractive.
